Anyone trading on the Open Food Network needs to comply with the Data Protection Act. From May 2018 there will be additional requirements, This checklist highlights 12 steps you can take now to prepare for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will apply from 25 May 2018.
do you have any advice regarding contacting food hub customers? We’d like to send newsletters to our customers, but I’m not sure we are allowed to do this under GDPR, as they have not signed up to it. Moreover, there is no option during the registration/check-out process for them to sign up (e.g. a check box).
Do you have any experience how this is handled at StroudCo or other food hubs?
Most hubs handle this by emailing with a newsletter opt-in email after a customer orders. This is totally fine for GDPR.
We can also automate this process for you on our 2% plan.
OK that’s good to know, thanks!
